  • by

Two people have been rescued after a large explosion at a house in Edinburgh.

The blast happened at about 10.25pm on Friday night and was heard miles away.

Neighbours said they could feel their house shaking.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent five vehicles to the scene, but the two people inside the building had been rescued before they arrived.

A spokesperson confirmed it had received “reports of a gas explosion affecting residential properties on Baberton Mains Avenue”.

No update was given on the condition of the pair who had been inside.

Police Scotland said emergency services remained on the scene, and people are being urged to avoid the area while an investigation takes place.

Pictures from the scene suggest an end terrace house has been completely destroyed.

A GoFundMe page has been established to support a family who “have lost everything and their home … so close to Christmas”.
